Here are 26 basic and essential hand patterns that use and represent feels from all the different djembe rhythm families such as 4/4, 6/8 (12/8), binary- ternary and “swing”. These patterns will give you a great start in your studies as well as set you up for playing diversely, rather then getting stuck in the same old hand patterns or feels. These patterns come from traditional West African rhythm structures and compositions from village and city styles of West Africa. Michael has been studying these rhythms for over 40 years and now shows you how to play them in a simple and easy to learn manner. Each rhythm is demonstrated at moderate speed, then at very slow speed. No slow motion is used, Michael just plays them effective at really slow speeds. Each pattern includes an explanation as well as simple notation (on screen).
