In this new 10 minute “How To Play Djembe” lesson by Michael Pluznick we will explore the use of flams as an exercise, solo technique and feel. Have you ever wondered “what are these guys doing”? When watching videos on Youtube? Much of todays modern or “ballet style” solos on djembe include the use of different flam patterns used in combinations. A flam is two notes, offset hitting as one note or in one spot.
When you break down the most complicated djembe patterns (in some of todays popular djembe drumming) styles to their simplest elements you will often find simple yet tricky and effective flams at the core. We demystify and simplify.
Michael uses a build up approach starting with making a very basic flam on your right, then flam on your left. Continuing on we now play left and right together. Techniques are shown with a click track as well as with feet cymbals so you can see and hear where the beat is going. There are front views, close ups and rear overhead shots as well a a very short slow motion segment . So every possible way to view this is shown. From very slow to moderately fast tempos. Suitable for advanced beginners to to advanced players.
