I made this durring my 2nd study tour of West Africa where I met and played with several master djembe drummers and djembe folas in Guinea and Mali. In this “how to play djembe” class MIchael Pluznick shows djembe and dunun drum techniques and styles. The name of this piece is “kuku” from Guinea (guinee) West Africa. Class was filmed in Bangkok, Thailand at rumpuree dance and drum school in Amarin Plaza. Michael Pluznick has been studying, performing and recording for over 30 years and performed with master drummer Bolokada Conde (les Percussions Du Guinea). At the end of the West African Djembe drum and African dance show, all the folas (djembe masters) get together in a line and exchange awesome djembe solos. Filmed in Conakry Guinee West Africa by Michael P I have started a Djembe Drum group on Facebook! A good friend and long time drummer recommends that students play every day. Some people think that means they have to sit around for hours at a time but he say’s even five minutes to connect with your instrument (in this case the djembe drum) makes all the difference in the world.
