The NEW MP Eco Pro 12″ Wood Djembe is now ready to ship to you!The new Michael Pluznick Signature Djembe has reached the shores of the U.S.A and is available at X8drums.com

“I am very proud to have this very fine drum offered to my friends and extended drum family. It represents a terrific value and has superb sound, tone and fantastic projection. I have been performing on this drum for the last year through out Asia, India and USA and it has just been fantastic!  Everyone always comments positively on the sound and asks me where my drum is from. They are always shocked when I answer Bali”!

Designed and manufactured in Bali, Michael worked closely with master drum makers and artisans to create a djembe drum that he believes rivals many commercial drums in sound, look and definitely 100% in quality.

These drums are made in a limited edition. This means there is a very short production run. The drums are made or turned on a lathe for a perfect, balanced shape and even tone qualities.

One of the major upgrades to this drum is additional carving on the inside of the drum which creates a larger “choke” or opening for the sound to exit from.  The choke should always be larger then your fist size when placed in the opening.

He also added a bicycle tire to the bottom of the drum to protect your floors, other peoples floors, to stop the drum from whacking and splitting and to make it easier to hold when you are drumming sitting down. Once you try a drum with a tire on the bottom you will want one on whatever drum you are playing. It is the perfect finishing touch to an already great drum!

Legally Harvested Wood

Michael’s goal in making this limited edition signature drum was to try and design an “eco” friendly drum in small numbers from a “good wood”  source and also to make a drum that looks, sounds and feels like  a traditional African drum but at a retail price of almost half their cost. “The world forests are being depleted. The wood for this drum comes from  plantation Mahogany wood that is regrowth”. It is important that we replant trees as much as possible.

The trees used in manufacturing these drums are replanted and it is regulated and observed closely. They are the only drums coming out of Bali that use certified wood. The wood source is inspected closely by government inspectors before they give their seal of approval. This wood that these drums use cost twice as much as the “smuggled” and illegal wood, (often used in Indonesia) but to Michael it is worth the cost to try to at least be conscious about it.

Kiln Dried

The Eco Pro djembes are kiln dried and tested for humidity and moisture. This prevents long term problems with the shell cracking or changing shape over time. Many drums coming from Indonesia have had problems with wood changing shape over time, with rings slipping and other inferior problems. These drums have proved in testing over time to have no such problems. Make sure you know about the wood on whatever drum you play.

The Sound

Please watch the videos and see for yourself.

These drums have full rich tone, deep bass and a snappy high with slaps that really “POP”! The larger 13″ drum is really remarkable in that it covers so much ground. You can use it as a solo drum, accompaniment drum or anywhere in between. Because of the remarkable strength of the wood and roping methods you can pull these drums as tight as you want. They won’t warp like some lighter drums do. “I have been testing these drums to the max and have not had any warping whatsoever”! The drum is a very comfortable weight if you are standing up to play as well.

The smaller drum at 12″ is still a very nice size, very  light in weight and has remarkable presence and projection of sound. Despite being a screamer on the high end (if you crank it up). The bass sound is also remarkable on this smaller drum. This drum is perfect for travelers or anyone who wants a great sounding smaller drum.
