Skin matters! The type of skin, the thickness, consistency and evenness all play an important role in your drums sound. Almost any drum made can indeed be made to sound much much better by carefully choosing and correctly mounting the proper skin to balance the particular drum shells inherent qualities.
If the skin is too thin you may loose full tone and may add ring. If the skin is to thick you can dull tone and loose bass.
When a drum is too ringy you want to use a thicker skin. Most djembes need thicker skins.
In this video I play one of my least favorite drums fitted with a fantastic Manito percussion mule skin. Please mention or use coupon code 007 when ordering any kind of skin from Manito and receive a discount!
