Drumming with others is like being on a team

,

“There is no I in team”. Although this is a bit of an over used expression, I still love it. It really fits into my idealism concerning group drumming be it traditional or non traditional.

Drumming is a communal experience. And for me, It would be so more of a communal experience if we acted in communal ways, sharing, allowing, taking turns, leaving space and not acting like “the man” oblivious to other people around us. when we drum regardless of the situation

What is group consciousness in drumming?

brotherhood of the drum
brotherhood of the drum

Instead of drumming for ourselves and obscessing on self expression, drumming for the group in support of whatever situation you are in. Drumming is inclusive.

What I have noticed about ego drummers sometimes is a narcissistic tendency to try and dominate.

People constantly defend their position about creativity, doing “what they feel” and on and on when ever I talk about this or post. I find it sometimes a cover up for laziness and I think sometimes people simply have not tried to or have not taken the time to learn to play and or to play with others in harmony.

I would like to see people acting in group consciousness, inclusive in situations
