Mali Sunu rhythm solo techniques part one

,

In this video I am sharing and showing you the traditional solo patterns or “techniques” as many people call them for the Mali style Sunu rhythm arrangement as I learned it from my teachers Mali Djembe Master Drummer Aruna SIdibe & Brulye Doumbia while I was living and studying in Mali. These techniques also fit and match with the traditional west African dance choreography that goes with this beat as well. Solo techniques are groups of phrases or short patterns that are played together and interact with the dance and dancers while at the same time weaving through the drum pattern and melody that the basic parts have created. The solo techniques I am showing here start right after the second beat (2) or pulse when you are counting, 1-2-3-4.
