drumming in Loxahatchee

Exciting news! Traditional-style drum jams featuring djembe sessions and conga sessions, led by Michael Pluznick, are returning to Loxahatchee at Serenity Gardens and various scenic locations in South Florida from mid-November to early January while I’m in the USA. If you’re interested in joining, please send me a private message.

We play outdoors at retreats sometimes with a nice fire in nature, at the beach, and often have gatherings for advanced players at the drum shop and studio of djembe builder extraordinaire David Joseph Hernandez from Djembe Life Drums.

Are you a beginner? We also offer lessons on how to play the djembe, congas, shekere, and other percussion instruments! Need a new drum or a tune-up? Make the trip—whether you’re coming up, down, or out—to get your drum tuned, pick up a new instrument from David, join a drum session, or take a lesson.

Loxahatchee is located west of West Palm Beach, and accommodations are available for travelers! I also provide one-on-one intensives if you’re interested in deepening your practice. A one on one intensive is a custom designed course built and designed to meet your specific needs.

In mid January Michael will be returning to Chiang Mai Thailand where he also teaches on a daily basis and offers drumming courses to travelers and locals alike. If you want an exotic experience Michael can help you design an exotic trip package as well!

It’s important to note that a traditional-style drum jam differs significantly from a regular drum circle or facilitated session. We use drumming hand patterns and rhythms that come directly from West African organized compositions.

In a traditional drumming session participants play specific parts on their djembe or dunun that go to various rhythm compositions. These compositions come from a long history and culture from West Africa. We call this traditional drum music.

At a jam or drumming session participants take turns holding support parts and learning to groove, as well as taking turns soloing, creating an experience filled with clarity and musicality, free from chaos and ear-splitting noise. These sessions are organized, and everyone is welcome to join, regardless of their skill level.
